Skateboarding Is Officially 1 Step Away From Becoming an Olympic Sport
Skateboarding is officially one of five sports that could be added to the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo.
In June, skating was shortlisted as a potential addition to the games. And in August, the International Federation of Roller Sports—the organization handling the Olympic bid—made the case for skating before the Tokyo 2020 Additional Events Program Panel.
And now, alongside surfing, baseball/softball, karate, and sports climbing, it will be submitted to the International Olympic Committee, which will render its decision next August, in Rio de Janeiro.
If skating makes the final cut, it will include street and park events for men and women.
